Playa Ancon, 12km south of Trinidad, is usually associated with a black rock, which
served as landmark for sailors. Since the black rock looked like a leg of a
horse, the locals called it hind legs. Thus the name came from hind
legs(ancona). Playa Ancon is the finest arc of sand on Cuba’s southcoast. Not
only has Trinidad beautiful nature that surrounds the region and its colonial
appearance, but also two beautiful beaches: Ancon and Maria Aguilar, Ancon
Beach is approximately 7 miles (12 km) from the city. It is two and a half
miles (4 km) long, with white sand and green-blue water. Its seabed is ideal
for scuba diving.
The
Ancon beach is less crowded than Varadero or Cayo Coco Beaches and has more of real Cuban experience than the
other two. The Ancon beach feels like more Cuban, feels less like a fabricated
version of a tourist attraction. It still is a good choice for a Cuban holiday.
Playa Ancon houses three hotels. From the bell tower of Hotel Brisas or from the
hotel of Hotel Ancon, opens a wide and gorgeous view over the bays for those
who care to take a look.
